Childs Farm
Somewhere on the coast of Britain is a hidden valley, which makes the most of the mild, coastal weather and enjoys the best of the Great British Countryside. And in this valley lies the not too big, and not too small, but perfectly sized Childs Farm…
This working farm does everything a normal farm would: plants crops in the spring and harvests them in the autumn. Cuts hay in the summer, and has a good old tidy up in the winter. The only difference between this farm and the thousands of others like it across the country is that this one is run by a sheepdog, a pig, a duck, a goat, a horse, a mouse and a tractor.
Spreading from the southerly sandy beach to the Bluebell woods of the North. With hills for sledging, sea for surfing and fields a plenty for playing and jumping, everyone can have fun at Childs Farm!
Meet the characters...
Radar: A sheepdog puppy (human age 3)
Radar’s roots are from the North of England, where his extended family includes many award-winning dogs, who’ve brought sheep in from the wilds of winter moors all over England. A great fan of ‘One man and his dog’, Radar aspires to be like his relatives once he’s grown up, and is keen to practice herding anything. What he lacks in experience, he certainly makes up for in enthusiasm. He looks after himself as best he can but the nature of his work means he does have a tendency to get a bit muddy. Radar is very enthusiastic in everything he does, and likes to make sure that everyone is involved and is having as much fun as he is.
Truffles: A pig (human age 4)
A Kune Kune pig, Truffles' family originally came from New Zealand, hence his rather gentle Kiwi twang. His outlook on life is very simple, and kindness and caring are his top priorities. This pig would give you his last Rolo, even though he would really want to eat it himself! He has a bit of a pash on Peggy - his cheeks colour when she talks to him - and if she held his hand he would probably faint with excitement. He is the quiet one of the gang, looking for reassurance and support when he has a go at something new. Everything he does is very much through the eyes of a child who’s seeing something for the first time.
Peggy: A duck (human age 5)
Peggy is sweet and innocent in a five year old human way. When she first got her swimming goggles, she loved them so much she wore them to bed – and to breakfast the next day. She may be young, but she’s not a cissy or a baby. She can be petulant and tricky, but so can any five year old. One minute she’s as good as gold, the next she’s squabbling with Bella over who’s got the largest sticky bun. Her wellies and goggles identify her as Peggy, and are very much part of her characterisation.
Bella: A goat (human age 6)
Our soft Scot, Bella, is dance mad and is slightly more mature than the others. She has posters of Margot Fontaine, Michael Jackson and Olly Murs on her bedroom wall, as she loves every type of dance there is. She’s a gentle soul who wants only the best for her friends, and can be quite motherly towards Characters them with her caring nature and desire for everyone to be happy. Her love of dance can mean she gets lost in her own world, where she is the star of the greatest show on earth. When this happens, she doesn’t know if it’s Tuesday or Christmas. Her iBel gives her characterisation, both as the CF goat and as a music lover.
Buster: A horse (Uncle figure)
Buster is utterly cool with an effortless ability to do everything well. He is up-to-the-minute, totally on trend, and makes things happen with an amusing consequence. He’s the hip bachelor uncle who always knows who’s No. 1 in the charts... and probably taught them everything they know!
Mimi: A mouse (Grandmother figure)
Mimi is a Dorset lovely, with a warmth and cosiness which make you think of a large pot of tea, a plate of hot, buttery tea cakes on a scrubbed table in front of a raging fire whilst it’s howling a gale outside. Cold compresses and hot drinks are always on hand, and there’s nothing that a slice of her Lemon Drizzle cake can’t cure.
Old Red: A tractor (Grandfather figure)
A lovely old buffer, Red’s taking things easier in his dotage. He is ‘married’ to Mimi who manages his day and activities. He tires easily and whilst he loves the team, they utterly exhaust him. His memory is deceptive and he recalls a youth of vigour and excellence, when really he’s never left the ploughed fields of the Childs Farm valley.
