Clinical Safety Testing & User Trials
We want everyone to feel happy in their skin, which is why every Childs Farm and Farmologie product goes through independent clinical safety tests to confirm they are suitable for dry and sensitive skin, and also safe for people that may be prone to eczema. This product testing is completed by an independent testing house, where the participants in both the clinical and user trials are not aware that the product are ours, to ensure that we receive unbiased results.
What Is Clinical Safety Testing?
This is a 96-hour patch test on a panel of healthy adults, all of whom have medically diagnosed eczema-prone skin. We follow an international standard protocol to determine the irritation potential of a cosmetic product; this involves applying a patch to the skin containing the product daily for four days. At the end of each day, the patch is removed, and the skin assessed by an expert for any sign of irritation. Products are tested against both a positive control and negative control to demonstrate the validity of the test.
Independent User Trials For Childs Farm
We feel that parents need more confirmation and confidence that our products are suitable for their little ones. We complete user trials on each of our products; one on a panel of newborns (0-3 months), and another on a panel of children with medically diagnosed eczema.
Parents/caregivers are asked to use the products on their babies/children in place of their normal bath time products for two weeks. At the end of the two weeks, they are asked to complete a questionnaire on how they would rate the performance and suitability of the product for their newborn/children. The results are then reviewed and analysed to ensure that the products are meeting the expectations of parents of newborn babies/children with medically diagnosed eczema.
We also ask for feedback to ensure our products did not cause irritation to support that the formulations are mild and gentle to ensure they are suitable for both newborn babies and children with medically diagnosed eczema. For a Childs Farm product to be launched, the product must pass our strict criteria at each test and review point. If the product does not meet these standards, we will not launch it.

*We do not test our suncare products on newborn babies as they should not be in the sunlight at any time.
**All products are tested as suitable for newborns with the exception of our pillow spray and our suncare range, which is tested as suitable for 6 months old and upwards, following NHS recommendations that those under 6 months shouldn’t be in direct sunlight.
