Our Sustainability

Our sustainability promise

Sustainability is a subject that is really close to our hearts and sits with our core company values. We are doing a lot of work into sustainability at the moment and how we best apply this across all aspects of our company and our products.

Childs Farm is currently working on sustainability across our whole range of products. This includes everything from our bottle pumps to how our ingredients are sourced. Please see below how we are currently working towards sustainability.

  • All of our bottles and caps are widely recycled and feature the recycling symbol on our packs (known as the Mobius loop)

The other symbol which are triangles with a number in indicate what type of plastic the packaging is made from and this helps ensure its being recycled in the right way. Certain types of plastic are easily recyclable and others can only be recycled dependent on the local facilities available so may need to be checked with your local council.

Our bottles are made from HDPE (shown as symbol 2) and are widely recycled. The caps are made from polypropylene (shown as symbol 5) which is also widely recyclable.

We also use 30% PCR in our 250ml and 500ml bottles. PCR is post-consumer recycled plastic so using material that would have otherwise been disposed and giving it a second (or third or fourth life) of instead of using brand new virgin material.

  • Our pumps are made from a mix of PP, PE, stainless steel and glass, and the recyclability of these varies by region. If you cannot recycle these in your area please remove the pump from the bottle and the bottle can still be placed into the recycling. We are looking at our pumps and investigating other sustainable options, however this is more challenging due to the recycling facilities that are currently available in the UK but we are continuing to review the options available, and as innovation continues in this area we are constantly keeping our eyes peeled.

  • Our sprays and over caps are made from using polypropylene (shown as symbol no. 5) and these are widely recycled. Our tubes are made from a mixture of HDPE and LDPE which is widely recycled. The caps on our tubes are made from polypropylene which is also widely recycled.

  • The main bottle on our roll on SPF Is made from polypropylene (shown as symbol 5) is also widely recyclable. However the ball and casing that is used is made from LDPE which isn’t yet recyclable so please can these be removed from the bottles before placing in the recycling waste.

  • Our labels on our bottles are made from polyethylene laminates which unfortunately are not yet recyclable but can be left on the bottle. We are looking at more sustainable alternatives for these and hope to be able to update you with our progress soon.

  • As well as our products we have also made some really positive changes in our gift packaging. For example our gift sets previously used to have a plastic window which couldn’t be recycled and these have now been removed with the box being fully cardboard and so fully recyclable. Our cardboard sources are also FSC approved.

  • Sadly we cannot provide refills at the moment. This is due to the risk of contamination to the product which we believe adds unacceptable risk, particularly when supplying products for babies and children.
