Veganism isn’t just about what you eat, but how you live….

It’s often said that vegan isn’t a diet, it’s a lifestyle. That means vegans make animal-friendly choices in all sorts of areas, such as wearing non-leather shoes and avoiding wool, as well as seeking out cruelty-free skincare.

But unfortunately, it can be really quite confusing trying to work out which cosmetics and toiletries hit the sweet spot of being both vegan (i.e. contain no animal products) and cruelty-free (i.e. don’t contain ingredients that have been tested on animals).

The Childs Farm range has been registered vegan friendly by being awarded the Vegan Society trademark*, along with being approved under the Leaping Bunny Program, the best global cruelty free assurance. To be awarded Vegan Society approval, products must pass a raft of strict criteria to guarantee they are suitable for vegans.

“The Vegan Society has the most stringent requirements for vegan approval,” says Louise Norman, Regulatory and Technical Manager at Childs Farm.

“It not only provides guarantees that the product’s ingredients and its production are vegan-friendly, but also means that a full review of a product’s whole supply chain – including all the raw materials – has been conducted.

“Every product has to go through the process which takes approximately one month per product. Why? This is due to having to obtain guarantees for all of our raw materials supplies. This often involves an in-depth review of their own supply chains too!

“The vegan society have the most stringent requirements for vegan approval. It provides guarantees that the product and its production are suitable for vegans. Whereas if a product states it has a ‘Vegan Formulation’ or ‘Vegan Friendly Formulation’ it does not provide the same assurances.

“It means that no ingredients are of animal origin or contain animal by-products, it does not ensure the full supply chain and production have been reviewed.

“At Childs Farm, we will only work with suppliers who understand our values and are committed to providing us with the assurances that their supply chains and ingredients they supply us are vegan friendly.”

Childs Farm has also been awarded the Leaping Bunny certification, meaning consumers have another level of certification for cruelty free children’s toiletries and how they are tested, enabling them to make more informed decisions about the products they choose to use on their children’s skin.

As you can see from the process we have to go through, identifying that a product is suitable for vegans isn’t straightforward and looking at the ingredients list alone may not provide you with the assurances that a product is truly suitable for vegans. By displaying the vegan society approved symbol on the packaging, immediately provides consumers who follow veganism the reassurance that the product is suitable them.

We are celebrating our vegan credentials this ‘Veganuary’ by taking 20% off our most popular vegan products, shop these products here, or you can shop our full range.
